Where do we go from here?

So far, the Favre saga has all played out like a big game of chicken.  First Favre feels Thompson is daring him to retire last March, so he does.  Then he says he'll come back to see what they'll do.  They say fine, so he retires again.  The Packers take him at his word, draft replacement parts, daring him to come back since they have moved on, so he eventually says he will.  The Packers say maybe they don't want him, so he dares them to cut him.  They in turn dare him to come back and fight for his job.

I think I remember playing a game like this when I was about eight years old.  One guy won't jump over the river in the back woods, so he gets dared.  He responds that nobody else would do it, so he dares them right back.  It's what eight year olds do.

However, it isn't what grown men should do.  Neither side is faultless in this debacle, though the flip flopping of the quarterback certainly could have avoided it all.  If he just says I'll come to camp and play, even if he inside isn't sure, he could still retire in the middle of camp if he wanted to.

And don't feed me this "unappreciated" line.  In the words of T.O.'s press agent, Favre has had millions of reasons to feel appreciated.  The fact that Thompson left the groveling to the head coach this off-season is no excuse for Favre to retire.  It was Brett's decision, and they were happy to have him back when he first said he wanted to come back.   After a second retirement communication to the team, what did he expect?  Even if he wasn't ready, they couldn't stand still, assuming he would change his mind again.

This will most likely be over by the start of training camp.   Let's hope it doesn't go much longer, or the Packers could have a circus season the likes we haven't seen for a while.

I am really tired of hearing about all this , from his brother, agent, or mother, why does'nt he steop up to the camera, and address all of us fans that have supported him for so many years..

OMG:
I feel as though Farve is really tarnishing his own legacy. Instead of being hailed as one of the best quarterbacks of all-time, he could very well be remembered as an ungrateful crybaby, as he has been quoted as saying the Packers didn't feel as though they wanted him back. Nothing could be further from the truth. For three years now, Green Bay fans, as well as Farve fans have put up with his own indecisions of retirement. Now that he has officially done that, he says he is not wanted.
I wish he would just do what he says he is going to do. I love the man and all he stands for, but this act is selfish and immature in my opinion.
Aaron Rodgers has handled all of this quite well. As I have heard most of the Packer players interviewed, Rodgers is "our quarterback." He is our future. I hope he uses this same attitude as our leader on the field.

Are these words written in archives and documented or are they just thompsons words to appease us??? How do we know what to beleive?

Its not Bretts fault that the media and stations pick up on every single thing regarding Brett. The media is turning this into a circus.

I think he should be brought back as starter and if he does bad, well then its his fault and he asked for it. I also think if they accept him back as starter, he should have it written in stone that he has to honor his complete contract and no more retiring till its done!

Rodgers hasnt lost a thing, got paid for sitting on the sidelines doing nothing, proving nothing, he has one more year on his contract, it maybe would be wise for him to stay number one backup and gain some more knowledge, also knowledge on how to relate to fans...

We all know there is no love lost between Brett and Thompson, so he was probably elated when he got what he pushed for. I think Brett was presured into a quick decision, but I think he should have said the hell with you guys, Im staying....
Just my thoughts on the whole ordeal.I think we should bring Wolf back!

We'll here it in Favre's own words tonight on FoxNews, when he interviews with Greta Van Susteren. I suppose the media circus will continue . . .

You fans in Green Bay make me sick if you don't want the greatest thing that happened to Green Bay to come back and start!!!

He has give us everything back. He has made this organization strong, when we could have lost it. He is a strong community contributor (more than any other athelete). He is a REAL person, unlike most NFL players. O and by the way he is the greatest QB to ever play!! He is more than a football player, he is the only real thing left in sports.

He is also way better Rogers will ever be. Rogers is in his last year of contract or did you forget if you are worried about Brett coming back for 1 more year. Aaron will hold GB more hostage then anyone, he has a bad ego problem on top of it!

Wake up GREEN BAY before we lose it all!!!! Support him on this SUNDAY at 12:00 Noon. He may be in town for the last time..

Here we go again, retirement round three.... Don't take me wrong here, I have appreciated what the man has done on and off the field all these years, but this is getting totally old. He complains to Greta that the Packers pressured him into retirement then just wants them to come out and tell him if they want him or not and stop making things up for the public. What??!!! After 2 years of this, ANY team would want a yes/no prior to the April draft so they can map out their strategy. If he felt that way, then he should have manned up and told the world at his retirement cry fest that he was pressured into retiring. Sorry, but the Packer organization gave him plenty of chances to say he wanted to play again and I can't blame them for saying they've moved on. They have a WHOLE TEAM to worry about and prepare for the coming season and coddling a grown man tossing a hissy fit is stupid. If he really wants to play the game and give it 100%, then show up at training camp, show up at the OTA's, just plain BE THERE and stop the ego feeding crapola. He says he never filed the retirement papers, so, he is still under contract. What did he tell the other players who wanted out of their contracts, hmmmmm.. If he is serious about it, then show up, do the job, and WIN the starting quarterback job. It's that simple folks. The team and the fans will welcome him back with open arms and lots of love. I can already hear people getting upset that he should win the starting job back, but, remember, he held his conference and told the world he retired. Think about it.

After listening to all that has been going on and the first interview Brett gave to Greta, I have since changed my mind. I was saying stay retired and am now saying let him come back. I think he was pushed to gve a quick answer when he so called retired but he did state he was retiring. Now to my comment on let him come back. What I should have put in also was let him come back as a backup quarterback to Aaron Rodgers. We all know where that will lead. Won't take no time at all and Brett will be the starter for the packers
Someone also stated that the players want Aaron as their quarterback but I have heard some of the older ones state they want Brett back and the one's stating they want Aaron are the newer players.

I’ve always hated football and never cared about the Packers much, until I watched BRETT FAVRE. That man is absolutely the GREATEST! I didn’t even like HIM much at first, but over the LONG years I’ve learned to admire him as a QB, leader and person and I grew to LOVE the Packers. To watch the way Ted Thompson, Mike McCarthy and Mark Murphy have disrespected Brett and the fans is sickening. Isn’t it obvious to EVERYONE that these three have made life extremely difficult for Brett AND the other players since these three arrived? Isn’t it also obvious that they don’t care any more about WINNING the SUPERBOWL than they do about the players and fans? What do they care about? The Packers are UNLIKE ANY OTHER team in football! Brett is UNLIKE ANY OTHER QB! There would be no Packers, if not for ALL Brett has done. The Packers would have disappeared LONG AGO. It’s time for the Packers to make it right; bring Brett home where he belongs as our STARTING QB and give him ALL the support HE needs to lead the Pack to victory!

Every NFL team should have the goal of a super bowl on there mind at the beginning of every season. The Packers obviously DO NOT. An unproven Rodgers vs. Favre, there is something wrong with management in the Packers orginization.

Whoever hired these three should fire them, they are dragging the packers down to a bottomless pit, they should be called the "Evil Three" and the question is "How Low will they go?"
If they had a brain they would bring brett back for the rest of his contract and get the team back on a hopefully winning streak. Think of the Organization you three, not your own stubborn egos. Get this team back to the way its suppose to be with Brett leading the Pack and forget everything else.

Its obvious that the Evil Three are out to completely ruin Brett Farves name and reputation.
Are we as Fans, Shareholders and Owners of the Packers going to let this happen???
I surely hope not, this is terrible, after all Brett has done for the Packers, and all the entertainment and enjoyment he has brought to the fans, are we going to let them do this? I hope something can be done to right this situation, by bigger people than them three.
Please group together to right this wrong and end this for the Packers and Brett.
Keep that stadium full and bring brett back, thats the only way the Packers will get back on top.

It's so OBVIOUS that Brett is now taking the whining, cry baby approach and claiming he was 'forced' to retire. Hmmm...is this the same guy who laughed last year that if he didn't show up for camp, what were they going to do...bench him? It's OBVIOUS that Brett wielded alot of influence and power on the GB team, and perhaps the management wanted to take it away.

He's displaying some attitude, which is fine, and some immaturity, which is also fine. However, if he cared about the game and not his own ego he'd stop all of this showboating and handle it behind closed doors with some dignity and privacy.

Drew - I'm not going to get into this too deep as you, better than most, know all the reasons why Brett Favre is the best option at QB for the Green Bay Packers in 2008. TT & MM say they've moved on. Moved on to what? Rodgers who has been the starter through a summer of OTA's wearing a red jersey. Give me a break. Brett may have millions of reasons to feel appreciated. But please keep in mind that the Packers Organization has millions more, including a rennovated Lambeau Field, to feel appreciated as well thanks largely in part to Brett Favre. I would also say that many Green Bay/Wisconsin businesses, including FOX11, have benefited tremendously during the Brett Favre era. Drew, you have a position of power/persuasion, with your position at FOX11. I am asking you to use your medium to get Favre back. You can help make this happen by the words you use & by how you choose to report this story. I enjoy your reporting, the TCR, etc. But if Favre is not the starting QB in 2008, I will be one passionate Packers/Favre fan who will not be tuning into the Packer games, etc. as I will be very disappointed with the handling by the Packers management of one of the greatest players in NFL history, regardless of position. In my opinion, Favre's interview with Greta was doen for one reason and one reason only. We are two weeks away from the start of training camp and based on TT & MM's response to Favre's desire to return, Brett had to make it know to all that he wants to play. If he did not, the unethical Packers mamagement would have hid Favre in a corner not allowing the man to play an

I never thought I'd be blogging, but if the right eyes see this, MAYBE they will really "DO the RIGHT thing" concerning Brett Favre and the present state of the Green Bay Packers. The reality of the situation is that if I heard correctly, if Brett "Officially" comes out of retirement, he has 3 years left on his contract (correct me if i'm wrong). During this offseason he may have been "retired". But if you really think about it, Brett Favre has not missed Training Camp (Yet), and he also has not missed 1 Game since the previous season ended. So technically, If Favre was Re-Instated by the NFL before Pre-season and/or Training Camp, It's as if he NEVER left in the 1st place. Now when you look at it this way, you think about it being the same as if he never retired. He had what appeared to be one of his greatest seasons on record. He is the "Ironman" of the NFL. It all speaks for itself. A question that is raised in alot of minds is, if Brett wouldn't have been pushed into a split decision, and it was "business as usual" for the management of the Packers, does anyone really think Favre being starter would ever be in question? By not playing Favre as starter, regardless of the retirement word having happened, not only is it a slap in the face to Brett Favre and his Legacy, but a slap in the face of the Fans (who pay out the nose and pay "Management's wages"), the Packer Organization and it's Tradition and History, The reputation of the City of Green Bay and State of Wisconsin, The NFL, and the Entire Nation. According to some National Polls I have seen as well as mo

Here's an interesting comparison to the Favre situation. Last season Michael Strahan of the New York Giants did not report to training camp. Later he reported and the team activated him to the active roster on 09/08/07. Then they proceeded to win the Super Bowl. Seems like the Giants welcomed one of their star players back to the starting line-up with open arms. He was welcomed, I might add, even though he criticized Tom Coughlin up & down. Interesting!!!

I agree with Fin11 if the packers are going to actually do this and not bring back Favre or even let him compete for the starting position I will not be wathcing the packers next season. I basically watched the games for one reason and that was to see one of the best quarterbacks play the game its suppose to be played. Now if I have to support another team, and as hard as its goin to be seeing Favre in anything besides a packers jersey, at least I know that, that team respects one of the best players to play the game.
